J 4th Grade May Newsletter J
Happy Spring everyone and Happy countdown to summer!  Hold on tight, these last few weeks of school will be a fast ride!
Ancient Egypt projects:  Our study of ancient Egypt will culminate with student-chosen projects.  I have attached a copy of the possible projects (with rubrics) for your information.  Students must decide upon a projec t by next week.  They will be given 5 class periods  in support of completion of the project, however, the students may also need to work at home in order to complete the project on time.  Projects are due on or before Tuesday, May 19th.  Thank you in advance for your support of this creative and fun learning opportunity.
Testing:  Whew! We are finally finished with Parcc testing!   The kids stayed optimistic throughout and showed great perseverance.  Next week we’ll have a break.  Then the week of May 12, 13, & 14 will be final MAP testing, and DAZE and DORF assessments.
End of the Year Field Trip:  We will be learning to rock climb at the rocks in Tres Piedras, New Mexico, on Friday, May 22 as part of our end of the year celebration.  This is sure to be a day of great fun, self-challenge and community building.  Transportation, climbing equipment and 5 certified guides will be provided.  As the date approaches, I will seek a few parent volunteers for additional support with supervision.  Let me know if you are interested.   Permission slips and Rock Climbing Releases have been sent home with your child today.  Please review the forms, sign and return them to me no later than Friday, May 8th
Talent Show and Field Day:  Both the Anansi Field Day and Talent Show are scheduled for Tuesday, May 26.  Field Day will be in the morning, before lunch.  Talent Show will follow lunch.  Students interested in performing at the Talent Show should sign up with Senior Felipe for tryouts, or send a short video clip of their act to me at my email address.
End of School Celebration:   The last big event is our end of the year celebration on Wednesday May27th. Students should arrive to class by 8:30.  Parents are invited and encouraged to attend the whole school presentation at 10:40 with a potluck to follow.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing you at these celebrations!
With gratitude,

Kelly J
