Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the recent new snow... burrr, but soooo beautiful!
The kiddos will be focusing on some fun science concepts this week. Ask them about forces and motion, and speed.

Friday, we will have a small in-class holiday celebration beginning at 10:30 with snacks and a book exchange.  Students who wish to participate in the book exchange should bring a wrapped book from home - I'm hoping the book is a used, much enjoyed book that the student is willing to pass on.  If you must purchase a new book, please don't spend more than $5.  Thanks!  Following our book exchange, we will watch a movie (Elf) with 3rd grade.
Please JOIN us for a whole-school sing along beginning at 12:30.  See you there!

Also, when students are absent from school, please look for their make-up work in their mail cubby, just inside the classroom door, to the right.  Students are expected to complete the work they missed due to illness, doctor appointments or other acts of nature and life.  Many thanks!

Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend ahead!

8/17/15
Dear Parents,
Wow – it’s already that time of year again!  Welcome back to Anansi Charter School! I am honored and excited for the opportunity to work your child.  By partnering together, we will be able to inspire and support your child’s success and create yet another fabulous school year!
I’d like to introduce myself.  I moved to Taos in 1989 and began teaching over 15 years ago.   I have taught 3rd grade through High School with specific emphasis in Science and Mathematics.  I’ve also taught abroad, including 2 years in Ecuador teaching 4th grade.  I am blessed with a beautiful family with whom I rock climb, ski and garden.  My 8 year old daughter Sophie also attends Anansi.  It’s been a win-win situation for this working mommy!
During the upcoming year, your student and I will build upon the learning they gained last year.  Mathematics will emphasize multiplication and division, fractions and problem solving; Language arts will include guided literature analysis, writing, vocabulary development, grammar and spelling; Social studies will focus on New Mexico while Science will explore the human body, forces and motion, earth’s materials, chemistry, and weather.  Homework will be given on a regular basis and enriching projects will be sent home throughout the year.
Anansi Charter encourages open communication between home and school.  If you need to speak with me, please do not hesitate to approach me.  I am available most afternoons after school for a brief check-in.  However, in the mornings I am less available as I’m busy preparing for the day’s learning.  If you desire a longer meeting, we can schedule an appointment.  My email is kfarewell@anansi.acstaos.org and I check it regularly.   I have also created a class BLOG where information will be posted about our 4th grade class activities, snack calendars and homework.  Check it out at www.anansi4thgrade.blogspot.com
Thank you for your support. This year is going to be a blast!
With gratitude,
Kelly Farewell  (Aka Miss Kelly)

I'll make the final decision about time of return that morning depending upon the most recent weather report. I will have Karina call all parents to let you know the pick up time. If you cannot pick up your child until 5pm, there will be aftercare available.
  • Come meet and greet the new 5th grade teacher - Ms. Eva, tomorrow night at 5:30. Parents and students encouraged to attend.

Dear Parents,
Thank you for helping us have another successful week of testing.  The kids really stuck with it and I was so proud of their efforts and positive attitudes.  Next week, we will have 3 science tests and then we'll be finished with testing until Mid April.

I'd like to throw the kids a party next Friday, March 27th, to celebrate their hard work and perseverance these past few weeks.  We're just finishing our read-aloud book, City of Ember, and they've requested that I show the movie and then we can compare it to the book.  I'm delighted to do this, and I'm asking for help from YOU to provide yummy, celebratory snacks for the occasion.  I'd love some popcorn, juices and maybe some sort of muffins, cupcakes, or cookies.  Let me know if you can help us with these party needs.

Please remind your student to collect their pledges from the Read-a-thon.  These monies are due by next Friday - March 27 and will help us go on our end-of-the-year trip:  Rock climbing in Tres Piedras!

Again, many thanks for all your support, both here in the classroom and at home.
I'm looking forward to seeing you Monday for conferences,
Kelly

Dear Parents,
Wow! What a great first week back to school! The kids quickly got back into the swing of things and really had a productive week.  Ask them about some of the fun science experimenting we've been doing - forces, motion and speed!

Help!  Our 'back up' snack drawer is perilously LOW.  If you can help us out by sending in a back up snack, I'm sure many tummies will greatly appreciate your generosity.

Thanks! Have a fabulous weekend!
-Kelly
